Waldorf Salad Authentic Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of diced apples (traditionally red-skinned, such as Red Delicious)
- 1 cup of sliced celery
- 1 cup of halved red grapes (seedless)
- 1 cup of chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup of mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: lettuce leaves for serving
Instructions:
Prepare the Ingredients:
- Dice the apples, slice the celery, halve the grapes, a nd chop the walnuts.
Mix the Dressing:
- In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the lemon juice. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Combine the Salad:
- In a large bowl, combine the apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts.
Add the Dressing:
- Pour the mayonnaise dressing over the salad and toss until all ingredients are evenly coated.
Serve:
- If desired, line a serving bowl or individual plates with lettuce leaves. Spoon the Waldorf salad onto the lettuce. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for an hour before serving.
Tips:
- For a lighter version, you can substitute half of the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
- To prevent the apples from browning, you can toss them in a little bit of lemon juice before adding them to the salad.
- This salad can be made a few hours in advance and kept in the refrigerator.
