Waldorf Salad Authentic Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of diced apples (traditionally red-skinned, such as Red Delicious)
  • 1 cup of sliced celery
  • 1 cup of halved red grapes (seedless)
  • 1 cup of chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: lettuce leaves for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Dice the apples, slice the celery, halve the grapes, a nd chop the walnuts.
  2. Mix the Dressing:

    • In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the lemon juice. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Combine the Salad:

    • In a large bowl, combine the apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts.
  4. Add the Dressing:

    • Pour the mayonnaise dressing over the salad and toss until all ingredients are evenly coated.
  5. Serve:

    • If desired, line a serving bowl or individual plates with lettuce leaves. Spoon the Waldorf salad onto the lettuce. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for an hour before serving.

Tips:

  • For a lighter version, you can substitute half of the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
  • To prevent the apples from browning, you can toss them in a little bit of lemon juice before adding them to the salad.
  • This salad can be made a few hours in advance and kept in the refrigerator.
